On the way back i went to start the truck. On the brush plate all i see are three tabs apparently not for index and one angled tab. When i hit the starter button, the starter just spins with a whirling noise. On your cpu heatsink, which side is facing out? If the starter motor is spinning normally but not engaging with the engine then it will be one of two things.

If you hear a little sputter when trying to start it can't be spinning the wrong way. Do you hear a series of clicks? I went to start again and the starter motor appeared to be no longer engaging. The one way bearing seems to be working fine. The cylinder thing on the top of these starters is the solenoid. It is impossible for it to start spinning in the wrong direction. If you can spin it both ways it needs replacing. The chance of spinning seems random, it happens instantly when trying to start or after a few cranks of the engine.
